Building The Future... Restoring The Past.

Traditional Lime Plastering & Rendering

Shipman and Bee undertake conventional plastering work on small - medium scale residential developments, where our proven expertise and attention to detail is appreciated by both the builder clients and the ultimate purchasers.

In recent times, more demanding building regulations have placed a greater emphasis on energy conservation and innovative products are being developed to ensure that new homes are ‘energy efficient’ and we would be pleased to advise you on recent advances in the field of energy conservation.

Lime renders were traditionally applied to give protection to walls built in rubble stone or porous brick, or on external walls in exposed locations facing driving winds acting as a temporary ‘reservoir’ absorbing rainfall then allowing it to evaporate rather than soak into the wall. Country cottages and period houses built of natural random stone would have been lime rendered and they tend to suffer from penetrating damp if the original lime render is replaced by a conventional cement render.

Shipman and Bee has considerable experience of lime mortar rendering having worked on a range of period buildings for English Heritage, the National Trust and an appreciable number of discerning private clients.
